Archive for 2014

Here is the thing.  In November I launched Personal Holiday Shopping by Juggling in Heels and I could not have been more excited for the response.  I had no idea this would be so well received and I could have never imagined to have so many clients so quickly.  Thank you!  Thank you!

Due to the number of clients I have been shopping for, along with classroom volunteering, holiday parties, gift wrapping, doing our own Christmas shopping and simply enjoying the holidays season, I have become TERRIBLE with writing posts.  I am just wrapping up the last of my client gifts and the kids get out of school in one more day so instead of holding myself to the expectation that I need to come up with something for a post over the next two and a half weeks, I am going to simply say that I am on vacation from now until January 2015.  This is my favorite time of year and I want to enjoying it 100% without anything lingering around.

Don’t worry though.  I will be back.  I have some amazing things launching with the personal shopping service in January and I cannot wait to share!

In the meantime, you can following along on our holiday adventures on instagram at @jugglinginheels.

I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year and I will see you all in 2015!

I look back on growing up and there are so many wonderful memories and traditions that my parents created for us at Christmas time.  Some involve things we did, other involve things we ate.  One of my favorite Christmas traditions was the Peppermint Ice Cream Pie with an Oreo Crust that my mom used to make each year.  My mom is an ice cream aficionado and each year when the Peppermint Ice Cream was released, she would stock up.  This pie was one of the things she would make and it is still, to this day, one of my favorite Christmas desserts.  And SO SO EASY.

1/2 half gallon Peppermint Ice Cream (softened)
1 package Oreo’s
1 1/2 sticks of butter

One pie dish
Meat tenderizer (hammer)
sandwich bag
freezer bag

How to Make:
1. Put the entire package of Oreo’s into a large freezer bag
2. Seal and hammer the entire bag until the oreos are crumbs
3. Melt the 1 1/2 sticks of butter on the stove
4. Put the melted butter and Oreo crumbs in a mixing bowl and combine
5. Spray the pie dish with non-stick cooking spray and then place the butter and Oreo mixture into the dish
6. Using the sandwich bag, use your hand to push down the Oreo’s evenly until you have created a pie crust
7. Scoop the entire 1/2 gallon of ice cream on top of the crust and spread out evenly
8. Place plastic wrap over the top and freeze overnight
9. Remove from the freezer 10 minutes prior to serving

J.Crew is currently offering 20% off when you spend $100+ and 30% off when you spend $150+ on the majority of items in their shop.  I absolutely love when J.Crew has these sales and it has been the perfect opportunity to pick up stocking stuffers, Christmas attire, gifts and client’s items.  I picked out some of my favorites below for her, for him and for the littles but I highly recommend making a visit to the shop by clicking here.  There are only two more days to get this great discount!

Happy Monday.

I am so excited today because it is the first post of the new Juggling in Heels contributor, Anne.  Anne has contributed to JIH in the past (her previous post is here, which gives our entire background and why I love her so much) but will now be contributing a beauty post once a month.  The reason for this is, Anne knows everything about everything when it comes to beauty.  She is obsessed with trying new products and she tends to be the one I go to when I need to change things up.  Keep an eye out for her upcoming posts.  I know you are going to love them.

Imagine that I’m your best friend. Okay so I know you don’t really know me yet. But trust me, after I walk you through the aisles at Sephora, I will totally be your beauty best friend. Because I love products. I ask everyone what they are wearing (and why, which I’m realizing now may be so annoying). Like I maybe have been known to send a text that reads, “Your skin looked so good last time I saw you at the grocery store. What foundation are you using?”
So there’s that. But I also try everything. My baby has really spent way too much time in his carrier while I bend over to test lipstick on my wrist. Well, at least he’s close to his mama. So I know what works and what doesn’t and I’m super opinionated. Just like a good best friend should be.

Let me introduce you to three products that have totally changed my life this season.

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide

I have been dating Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer on and off for years. I’ll use a bottle and then jump to the newest it product. There was that two year love affair with a Chanel foundation they don’t make anymore. Sigh. But somehow I always end up coming back to Laura. So when she launched a new foundation a few months ago I immediately went to try it. Oh. My. Gosh.

Let me just say that I have tried every foundation, BB cream and tinted moisturizer on the market. Okay maybe not all, but enough to shock you. I’ll just say that. They typically end up too heavy, settling into fine lines or just making my skin look super dry. Enter Laura Mercier’s new foundation. I am like head over heels in love. It’s a tad more coverage than the tinted moisturizer so dark spots and small pimples are covered easily. And the amazing thing is it’s matte without being flat or settling into lines.

I’m promising you, you will be in love. I use Linen which was sold out at half of the stores I tried so I am imagining its a popular color. If you are fair to medium it’s probably the shade for you. Don’t be shy to ask for a sample. I took it home and tried it in every light possible. Perfection. You’re welcome.

Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara

I have a mascara addiction like I am sure most of you do. I totally don’t mind a drugstore brand but I have one major pet peeve. Running mascara. I hate it. I have definitely walked away from more than one conversation, looked in the mirror and realized there was mascara on my cheek. So annoying.

So I’ve been on the hunt for something that doesn’t run. Fiber mascaras are usually the big winners here because they wrap around the lash and don’t smudge until you hit them with some warm water. So let me tell you. Since converting to Trish mascara I have cried, worked out, left it on overnight and played with my kids for hours and not one flake, smudge or random black stuff near my eyes. Ever.

It’s not cheap. At $31 it is on the high side for a mascara but totally worth it. I like to put mine on, wait five minutes and then curl my lashes. It’s like I just got extensions. Seriously.

Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1

I have been looking for a good dry shampoo that doubles as a body builder forever. For some reason every product that I’ve used for volume ends up heavy or crunchy. So I picked up this travel size at Sephora and immediately went back for the full. I just let my hair air dry and then spray this all over. I immediately have volume and “just got back from the beach” hair. It smells heavenly and is totally my saving grace with two small boys and absolutely no time to do my hair.

So there you are. Don’t you feel closer already? Go get a latte and shop. Enjoy.

Until next time, JIH readers.

The hubby wears a suit every day which means on the weekends, he wants to be in anything that is comfortable and casual.  I love a nice pulled together casual look on a man.  It can be just as sexy as a black suit and tie.

I really do not have a thing for Black Friday.

Perhaps it is all those years spent in retail when I despised the fact that after a day of massive food and wine intake, I needed to be at my store at 5am prepping the floor for a 7am opening.  I have never understood the desire of shopping over the holiday but obviously, many do.  I spent my time sipping wine in Santa Ynez not thinking about a single Christmas present and it was wonderful.

Cyber Monday is another story.

Here is the reality.  Christmas is only three weeks away and though we return to our regularly scheduled programming for a few weeks, the need to get those lists complete is looming.  So why not take advantage of some online deals during your lunch break?

I have found that in life, it is sometimes easier to think about all the thinks that are not going your way instead of being thankful for all the things that are.  I find it sad that often we are able to highlight problems so quickly but it takes effort to think about the things that bring us so much joy.  It happens to the best of us and it takes a conscious effort to decide for yourself what you want to focus on.  This week is a great reminder of that and I am choosing to embrace it wholeheartedly.

I am taking a break from posting this week to focus on being thankful with my family and friends.  I hope that you do the same.

Have a very blessed Thanksgiving and I will see you when I get back next week.

Tuscan 1

<Tuscan Poncho: 16th Colony / Hat: Plenty Boutique / Fur Scarf: Target (similar) / Sunglasses: Ray Ban / Turtleneck: Vince / Necklace and Cuff: Ceek / Jeans: Tory Burch / Boots: Frye Boot Company >

In typical fashion, it is the poncho that I was the most unsure about styling that I ended up loving the most.  Doesn’t it always work out that way?

When I saw the Tuscan poncho, I really really liked it but it felt the most “unlike” me.  The first two I could easily see myself wearing but this one had me a bit hesitant.  I really wasn’t sure I would be able to pull it off.  Then I started pulling out items to style with it and I found that in fact, it fit into my wardrobe more than I realized.  Imagine that.

This look couldn’t be more perfect for a cold Winter day.  The beautiful prints of the poncho add texture while the fur scarf adds the additional warmth.  The merging Fall colors of the hat and poncho fit right in with this season and the entire look just screams cozy and comfortable yet still filled with style.  I just loved loved this entire look and learned a valuable lesson yet again… TAKE THE RISK.  We all need to sometime or guess what, you are going to be wearing the same thing every single day and where is the fun in that?

Now that you have seen all three looks (if you missed, here is Monday’s, here is Wednesday’s), which one is your favorite?

Thank you so much Renee for giving me the opportunity to have so much fun with your gorgeous pieces!

Happy Weekend.

Stevie 2

< Stevie Poncho: 16th Colony / Hat: Plenty Boutique / Tee: Everlane / Jeans: Gap / Boots: Stuart Weitzman / Necklace: Ceek / Sunglasses: Ray Ban >

When all else fails, I will always go with black on black on black.  It is my go-to and I have always loved it.

When I made a visit to the studio, the Stevie poncho was the first piece I noticed.  The lace and fringe hem was too much for me and without even asking Renee, I grabbed it off the rack and tried it on.  At the time I wasn’t allowed to purchase it or even take a photo of it because the collection had not launched yet but I knew which one was my favorite.  Fast forward to this shoot and it was the first one I picked to style.  I could have paired it with some blue jeans and white tank to make an extremely easy layering piece (which would look fab by the way, you should try it) but I wanted to add a little more edge.

While I will admit that I am not a crazy edgy person, this look provides just enough rock and roll without me feeling as if I am over doing it.  The poncho, hat and necklace together add just enough detail to make one overlook the fact that I am really just wearing a tee and jeans.  And isn’t that the goal?  To make others think we spent much more time on our look than we did?  It doesn’t get any easy than keeping with one okay, perhaps two, the tee is grey colors.  Let’s be honest, we all have a little rock and roll in all of us.

This look is a completely contrast to Monday’s look, showing how easy it is for you to transition your looks without looking like you are crazy-town.  Two ponchos down, one to go!

If there has every been a look that I have been intimidated by, it is the bohemian look.  I absolutely love it on everyone else but have always been too unsure of being able to pull it off myself.  I have always felt that I would just look silly and therefore, have always stayed clear.  Then I met Renee of 16th Colony and after a day spent in her studio trying on pieces, I realized that perhaps I could pull it off, appropriately, in a way that works for me.  See, that was the thing that I was forgetting.  Rather than stay completely away from a look that I loved from a distance, I needed to incorporate it into a way that worked for me and my personal style.  Slowly but surely, I began to embrace it and I have since never looked back.

When Renee approached me about doing a photo shoot with 16th Colony to style some of her pieces, I thought this would be the perfect time to showcase how the bohemian look can be incorporated in a number of different ways, depending on your own personal style.  We shot three looks touching on being very feminine, a little rock and roll and a classic winter look.  I absolutely loved all three and believe that any of them can be worn by everyone, regardless of age.  I will be sharing each look over the course of this week and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did taking the photos!

In this first look, I am wearing the Skylark poncho.  I loved this double layered poncho as soon as I saw it and once I had it on and experienced how easy it was to move around in, I loved it even more.  Thrown over a pair of jeans or cut offs, this poncho adds a feminine touch to your everyday look without having to try.  This is the perfect daytime look for any woman on the go who wants to look cute and feminine but needs to be practical as well.
