When it feels like Spring weather, you dress like Spring.
I bought this Flynn Skye dress a couple years ago but it still one of my favorite Summer dresses. Don’t you just love a piece that continues to put a smile on your face year after year? This print is no longer available but Flynn Skye has so many other beautiful prints and many of them are currently on sale.
Can we chat about how Easter is only a week away? I cannot believe that Holy Week begins this Sunday and that in only a few short days, we will be celebrating with my family and then heading off on our Spring Break getaway. To say I am excited for a little vacation with the family is an understatement.
Yesterday I was working with a client and we were discussing looks for Summer. The topic of shoes came up and it led to a discussion on sneakers. Here is the thing. I truly believe that sneakers are under-utilized by the average mom. Because we tend to throw workout clothes on so quickly and sometimes lack the motivation to pull together a look (hey, we all do this.), we sometimes throw sneakers into this pile and rarely expand what we wear with them beyond Lululemon leggings. The truth is, sneakers are EXTREMELY versatile and something that every woman should have in her closet. Yes this is coming from someone with a true sneaker addiction but if you find the right vintage sneakers for you, you can wear them with EVERYTHING, be comfortable and maintain a chic and modern look. Shorts, dresses, jeans, skirts. The possibilities are endless.
I know that I have said this conversation before on the blog but I feel it is my mission to get an on-trend pair of sneakers in every woman’s closet and see them wearing them in ways they never thought they could.
This to me is the simplest way to work sneakers into your looks without pairing them with the expected shorts and jeans. I love that this look could be worn to a picnic, brunch or the playground and is pulled together yet still casual.
If you haven’t expanded your sneaker horizons I challenge you to try this Spring. There are so many amazing vintage styles out right now that you would be hard pressed to not love at least one pair (or numerous pairs like myself).
I totally dropped the ball on having a post ready this morning but I could not let this great sale go without mentioning it. Until 11:59pm (Eastern) tonight, Madewell is offering 25% off all Spring Ready Styles with code WARMUP. Here are my top picks but you can shop the entire set of Spring Styles by clicking here.
I, I did it all
I, I did it all
I owned every second that this world could give
I saw so many places, the things that I did
With every broken bone, I swear I lived
Warning. It is about to get a little personal.
Yesterday morning I took a spin class like I do most Thursday mornings. Nothing unusual about it. This instructor is a tough one, which is why I love her and by the last song, I was ready to be done. Then she started to talk about living. REALLY living. She simply asked, “are you?”. And then she played One Republic’s “I lived” for our final ride of the morning.
Not only did this song bring back all the motivation I was missing to push myself to the edge, but it also got me thinking…am I really living? Some days I truly believe I am. I take note of the sunrise, my heart skips a beat at the sight of my husband, I soak in all the joy that my children give, I laugh, I cry, feel blessed and I end the day appreciating all that I had experienced that day. The unfortunate part is that these days don’t happen all the time. In fact, they probably happen less likely than I would like to admit. More often than not, I am going through the motions, not really living.
The motions and stress can get the best of us. We get caught up in what has to be done and sometimes that can be overwhelming in itself and all we can think about is getting through the day and not about the fact that perhaps this could be our last. I am not attempting to be morbid here but let me ask you this question. Would you live today differently if you knew it was your last one? I think 99% of us would probably say “yes” to that.
When my time is up, I want to be able to look back and say I lived. I REALLY lived. I took all that this life had to offer and I embraced it with wild abandon. I want to believe that this gift of life was not wasted on the small, unimportant details. I saw beauty, I loved, I lost, I forgave, I laughed, I cried, I faced fears, I challenged myself and most importantly, I taught my children to do the same.
I guess my biggest question for myself and many of you is, why does this sometimes feel so hard? Why do we get caught up in things that really don’t matter? Why do we let stress control our emotions and our mood? Why is there so much beauty in this world yet it often goes unnoticed? Why do we end certain days with a sense of relief that it is over rather than gratitude that we lived it?
These are all questions that have been running through my head the last 24 hours and so I thought I would share because I am really going to work on focusing more on REALLY living and not getting by. Life is too short for that. The Easter season always puts life into perspective and I figure this is as good as time as any to refocus.
So to all of you…
Hope that you spend your days, but they all add up
And when that sun goes down, hope you raise your cup
P.S. I highly suggest watching this video. The young man in the video, Bryan, is truly inspirational. One warning though. It will make you cry.
If ever in doubt, go black and white.
That is my motto. It always looks so crisp and clean together and I love that it is simple yet chic. It makes for a the perfect date night look.
The silk blouse I am wearing is Everlane and I know I say it a million times on here but if you have not made a visit to the site to preview their merchandise, you are missing out. I have pulled just a couple picks to entice you to make a visit because I know you will not be disappointed.
When it comes to picking up the perfect closet staples, J. Crew is one of my favorite destinations. They consistently carry the perfect pieces to work within any closet and keep a nice fresh and clean look to your style. From today until March 17th at 11:59pm, they are offering 25% off with code SALELOVE on a number of their closet staples. This makes for the perfect time to provide a little Spring Cleaning to your wardrobe. I have selected my favorite women’s pieces but you can also shop men (by clicking here) and children (by clicking here).

When the temperatures begin to heat up, you will most likely find me in an Everlane tee and denim cut offs. It is the perfect match. And since the forecast shows the next three days in the 80’s, there is a high probability that you will see me in this look all weekend long. Cheers to a little Summer weather and a trip to the beach today!
If there is one thing I have learned as I have gotten older, it is that I should never step outside without a hat. With days spent on sports fields, at the beach, at the pool or simply taking a walk, the majority of my life is spent in the sun (not complaining about that one bit!) and it is important to protect my face. For most of my life I was really not a fan of any hats but over the past few years, my love for them has grown into a slight obsession. I love having a collection and am always looking for new ones to add. I was perusing Forever 21 the other day and came across three hats that were all $15 (the straw hat is only $13). I quickly ordered all three. Of course I love my Janessa Leone and Rag and Bone hats, but you cannot beat getting three for a quarter of the price. They have all arrived, fit amazing well and didn’t break the bank. A wonderful Hump Day treat.
Back when Gap and Kate Spade collaborated on a little girl’s collection, I went a bit crazy. There is nothing cuter than a little lady and Kate Spade epitomizes classic sophistication with some fun thrown in. It was adorable. When I received the email that Kate Spade had officially launched their Girl’s line, I could not have been more excited and immediately made a visit to the online shop. As expected, the styles were timeless, the prints were classic yet fun and it was exactly what I imagined it would be; Little Lady perfection. Kate Spade just made Easter dress shopping incredibly easy.
