When it comes to Summertime styling, I want it to be simple and easy. There is no reason it should be complicated and take too long. One of my favorite pieces to throw on in the summer is a denim romper. They can be dressed up with heels, dressed down with sandals or sneakers and are overall, extremely versatile pieces.
Now granted, finding one that fits well can sometimes be a struggle for someone as tall as me. One out of every twenty will actually fit without being to short to fit on my tall frame. BUT, when I come across one that does fit, I scoop it up immediately. I just picked up this Mother Denim one at Jolie, a new boutique on Lido in Newport Beach, and I cannot wait to take it out for a spin. Girls Night Out anyone?
I am totally late on today’s post and I apologize. This week has been pretty crazy with having work on the home, mishaps thanks to the work (I am not even going to get started on the destruction of my favorite wallpaper) and an allergic reaction that was, needless to say, not fun to deal with. The good news is that the reaction has subsided, the wallpaper guy has been scheduled, the work will be done today and most importantly, it is a THREE DAY WEEKEND!!! I love love Memorial Day weekend and am looking forward to spending time with friends while we kick off the Summer.
Nordstrom’s Half Yearly Sale started on Wednesday and there are so many great summer pieces at amazing prices. I have selected some of my favorites but you can shop the entire sale for Men, Women and Children here.
Happy Holiday weekend!
When it comes to Summertime, there is one detail that I love to incorporate into my everyday look; the bralette. Easily worn under EVERTHING, it creates a beautiful, whimsical feel that a traditional bra just cannot replicate. They are the perfect detail to wear under a tank or tee, allowing just a little glimpse of what is underneath without being too exposing. I have recently been adding to my bralette collection and my favorite pieces have been by Free People. They are extremely comfortable, the prices are right, I love the delicate designs and they have SO MANY to choose from.
16 days until the school year is over and Summer can begin. I CAN. NOT. WAIT.
I am not sure who is more checked out of school, me or the kids. What I do know is that the beach is calling our name, the alarm wants to take a rest and I am looking forward to some fun times with the kids this Summer.
My mind is filled with the idea of beautiful swimsuits, beach bags, sandals, sunnies and all the goodies that mean days spent by the pool or beach.
You may have noticed that I have been a completely slacker when it comes to recipe posts lately. I absolutely have. It doesn’t mean I haven’t been cooking though! I swear, I really have.
I have just let someone else handle the hard part.
The truth is, I was stuck in a rut. I was beginning to make the same things over and over again and when I went looking for recipes, nothing seemed to click. The poor family was having the same things week after week.
I had heard about Blue Apron but didn’t know much about it but I loved the idea of having recipes and ingredients delivered to me so that I did not have to think about it. We needed a change up and this seemed like the perfect solution.
After completing the quick survey, we received our first delivery of two meals the following week. This was exactly what I need for so many reasons.
First and foremost, it is brainless cooking. Everything is measured out for you so it is simply, toss in and continue. Second, the recipe cards are beyond step by step, making ensure that you cannot ruin your dish. There is no way. Third, the service is introducing the family to new flavors and recipes that I would never have tried on my own. It is easy cooking but with flavors and details that feel as if you really spent a lot of time planning the meal out.
This has been the perfect balance of still making tried and true recipes but also introducing new meals to the home. Some of my favorites have been:
Shrimp and Pineapple Soft Tacos
Roasted Chicken and Root Vegetables (pictured here)
Salmon Burgers (probably my favorite so far)
Chicken and Drop Biscuit Casserole (a family favorite)
Star Anise and Soy Glazed Cod
I love it so much that you must try so I am giving away FIVE (5) meals to FIVE (5) lucky readers. All you need to do is either “follow” @jugglinginheels on Instagram or “like” Juggling in Heels on Facebook (or both for additional entries). It is that easy. The giveaway ends May 19th at 11:59pm so make sure you enter right away!

When it comes to overalls, I stated that it would never happen. Just like the high-waisted shorts and the crop tops (which I have recently embraced..oops). Been there, done that. There is a high probability that I lived about 75% of my life in overalls Freshman year of college…. almost 20 years ago. Yep, that dates me a bit. That was enough. I swore them off.
But then they kept coming and coming and coming and the peer pressure became too much.
So I pulled the trigger. Not on the baggy, perhaps maternity looking overalls of the good ole college days but a more updated, skinny fit by Free People. I have created an image in my mind of how I would exactly like to wear them so I figured I would share it with you.
I am not seeing flip flops in my future with these. Oh no. I want glam and a night out on the town. I just figure that if I am going to bring them back, I better step up my game. Considering these were my jam as a Freshman, I kept a backpack in the mix but added the booties I am obsessed with and some sassy shades. Obviously a red lip is in order and the gold accents finish it off. Will it work? We shall see.
They not have arrived yet but I have high hopes. My real concern is my height so we shall see. What do you think? Are you totally over this trend and wish it never came back in the first place or have you taken it out for a test drive yourself?
As you know from this post, last week I hosted a Pajama Party featuring Maison Du Soir sleepwear at Bardot in Newport Beach. It was an evening filled with amazing sleepwear, good friends, champagne, shopping, chatting and simply, the most perfect girl time. Guests enjoyed champagne and wine while they perused the collection and tried on their favorite pieces. I got into the action trying on the the most perfect sleep dress and a robe that was so comfortable I decided I should wear it for the rest of the night, Hugh Hefner style. Smiles were abundant, the chatting never stopped and at the end of the evening, everyone went home to sweet dreams in their new Maison Du Soir. Pajamas parties might just be my favorite kind.

No, no, no. Stop it. I am NOT pregnant. Most certainly not. Yes, my post title is a bit deceiving but I am not here to announce anything. No Baby #4. I apologize for those of you who would have liked to see me fall into a tailspin of craziness and anxiety about having another. For right now, we are good.
I am however, excited to share with you a new book titled “You Know You Are Pregnant When….funny quotes from women who have been there” by Kate Casey. Kate is the witty writer behind Love and Knuckles (a hilarious pop culture blog) whom I met a while back at an event. I loved her candidness and commentary and soon began looking forward to her recaps on the Housewives more than the show themselves. This book is the product of accumulating numerous quotes from men and women regarding pregnancy over the year and putting them together for our personal enjoyment. For anyone who has been pregnant and had a baby, it is so SPOT ON that you laugh at how similar everyone’s experiences are…including cravings, emotional breakdowns, and sex. For example…
You know you are pregnant when… you save your best outfit/undies for OB appointment day” – Natalie G., New York, NY
You know you are pregnant when… what you thought was a hangover/motion sickness from the cruise to Ensenada and an entire day of tequila shots lasts more than a few days” – Christa M., Jackson Hole, ID
You know you are pregnant when… strangers tell you their birth story” – Julia K., Newport Beach, Ca.
I sat down with Kate to talk a little bit about the book and how it all came about.
“You Know You Are Pregnant When…” made me laugh and relate to so many women. What gave you the idea to pull quotes from so many men and women around the country and put it together in a book?
I started collecting quotes four years ago because I thought it would make a great gift book for pregnant moms. I didn’t find anything else like it and also thought it could become a series. My next book will be “You Know You Are A Parent When…” and I am looking for quote submissions.
Through all my pregnancies, I had very funny (and sometimes humiliating) situations that so many other women have also experienced. Did you find that many women responded with similar comments?
I was thrilled to find out how many women had similarly hilarious experiences. It’s a strange 10 months of your life and one you can only understand if you have lived through it.”
Were there any responses that completely shocked you? Can you share one?
“Your husband starts calling you ‘jungle tits” – Devon H., Costa Mesa, Ca.
What is your favorite response that you have received?
My favorite responses are the ones from the husbands at the end. “Every argument is lost with the words ‘I’m ruining my body for you”- Michael K., New York, NY (Michael is my friend from elementary school who is now a playwright in New York City and the father of two kids.)
How did you select the responses that made it into the book?
I used almost every response. There were only a few that I didn’t use because they were repetitive, which shows you how unique ever woman’s experience is when they are pregnant.”
You are currently pregnant with your fourth child. Honest answer: are you one of those people who loves to be pregnant or are you over it? I will be honest. By my number three, I was over it.
I don’t mind it. In the beginning it is pretty barftastic and I always feel like a walrus, but for the most part, it is smooth sailing. I am also a strange person because I look forward to labor. I look at it as an athletic event. I am basically a baby hoarder. I love babies.
Your blog focuses on reality show recaps and I can spend hours reading your hilarious commentary. What made you start the blog and dissect the reality world? Also, who is your favorite Housewife?
I have always loved to write. A few years ago my husband’s friend Travis suggested I started a blog. They say you should write what you know. I know pop culture. I can’t tell you anything about music, but I can tell you anything you need to know about made for TV movies, Saturday Live and comedies. My idea of relaxation is watching a Bravo marathon. I like to think of myself as a television anthropologist. I translate pop culture for normal people. I say what everyone else is thinking from the comfort of their sofa. my favorite housewife is Bethany Frankel.
As a Mother’s Day treat, Kate and I have teamed up to GIVEAWAY a copy of her book to THREE lucky winners TODAY. There is a catch though. You must follow Juggling in Heels on Instagram (@jugglinginheels). The giveaway photo will post at 9:00am TODAY on Instagram and the first three people to comment on the photo with #youknowyouarepregnantwhen followed by their own comment will win! It is that simple! Good Luck! You can also purchase a copy by clicking here.
Happy Mother’s Day Weekend to all the amazing Mama’s out there!
Mother’s Day. The perfect time to indulge your Mom, Sister, Friend or even yourself if you have one of those husbands that would prefer you to pick out your own gift for fear of getting the wrong thing. But what do you get? There are so many options out there and it can be hard to pinpoint the perfect gift. To help out, I created three different sets of Mother’s Day gifts; Pamper, Vacation Ready and Day to Day. Each of these sets can be given individually or mixed and matched to create the perfect gift. Hint Hint: I suggest forwarding this post on to you-know-who (ahem, the hubby) with some notes on what you may like for Mother’s Day. There is never anything wrong with providing a little direction..
