< Tank (Similar) / Denim Shirt / Skirt / Boots >

Do you ever stare into your closet and think to yourself, “I have nothing to wear”, even though it is very clear that based on your closet, you absolutely have something you can wear.  I guess we should re-phrase this to “I have something to wear but I don’t want to wear any of it”.  It happens to the best of us.  No matter how many clothes we have, there are just some moments when none of it seems to work.

This happened to me last Sunday.  It was warm again outside and I have really gotten tired of wearing my Summer clothes.  I was not interested in anything I had and was dreaming of the opportunity to put on a coat, sweater, scarf, pants and boots.  I just wasn’t interested in playing the “warm weather game” with Mother Nature and so, I professed, “I have nothing to wear!”.  Then I started looking piece by piece, hanger by hanger, and came across this Anine Bing skirt.  I had purchased this skirt a LONG time ago (Anine Bing is one of my favorites.  If you have not visited her site, you must!) and for some reason or another, I had never worn it.  In fact, I hadn’t even taken off the tags.  I remember when I first ordered it I was having a bit of trouble styling it to my liking and then it seems I put it in the black hole of my closet and never looked at it again.  Finding it on Sunday suddenly inspired me and instantly, I had something to wear.

That is the funny thing about our closets.  So often, we protest that there is nothing there that we like and we quickly order clothes in order to “help the cause”.  The truth is though, if we calm down a second, we have a TON of things to wear and sometimes it just takes a little creativity and re-inventing of a piece to create a fab look without spending a penny.

This month for my beauty finds I thought I would share what my day to day makeup is. Sure I love to really do it up for a night out on the town but that is just not necessary during the week. I really like to keep it simple and quick so that I can get out the door and get my day started. These are the 7 products that I use Monday through Friday when I want to look pulled together without looking like I have piled on the products.

Smashbox Liquid Halo
No matter how many foundations I go out to try, I always end up back with Liquid Halo. Chanel, Dior, Laura Mercier. The list goes on and on with what I have tried and none of them create the finish that this one does. This foundation lasts all day, keep my face shine free and looks great in photos (I necessary when taking blog photos).

Chanel Les 5 Ombres De Chanel Eye Shadow
After getting this palette I stopped using all the other eye shadow I own. It is perfect for day to day use when using the light base colors but also helps create a smoky eye for a more dramatic look. Within these 5 shades, I am able to create any look I want and I love that versatility.

Maybelline Great Lash Big Washable Mascara
This is another product that I always seem to come back to no matter how often I try something else. Granted, I do love Diorshow too, but this one is easy, cheap, applies extremely well and I can pick it up at CVS. I think it does just as good of a job of some of the more expensive mascaras so really, there is no reason to switch.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil
Years ago I was told by a makeup artist that one of the biggest mistakes a girl can make is not filling in her eyebrows when doing her makeup. It is like looking at a photo without a frame. The face will look fine but when the eyebrows are done, the entire package looks so much better. I take my eyebrows seriously. In reality, I will walk out of the house without a stitch of makeup on BUT will still fill in my eyebrows. It really does make such a difference. This pencil is my absolute favorite. I have used it for years and feel that it not only goes on extremely well but matches my eyebrows the best, making it look natural, not like I colored in my brows.

Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner
If there is one item that I really do not like applying, it is eyeliner. I do not like the pencils because I just cannot seem to make the line apply seamlessly and am constantly correcting it. I also tend to like a more dramatic line that brightens the eye. This liquid liner has become a favorite of mine because it is incredibly easy to apply. I can simply move across my lash line and it will apply a straight line without any mess. No pulling of the eyelid to make it straight. No going over it a second time. It is really simple and that is just what I need.

NARS Blush
This is another product that I have used for years and haven’t felt any reason to change. With blush, there are so many different colors to choose from so it really is about finding the right shade for your skin tone during that time of year but this one is one of my favorites. I prefer powder blush over cream blush simply out of application preference. This is just a classic blush and I love it.

BeautyCounter Lip Sheer in Nude
I know that I had mentioned this last month but it has become a daily staple that I thought I would mention it again. I do love my reds and wines when it comes to lipstick but it is nice to have a lip sheer that I can wear everyday that moisturizes my lips and provides a nice nude color. No red to have dramatic lips every day! I keep this in my bag and constantly apply as I am running around. It is such a great basic for any skin tone.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

I am so excited to introduce you to  Sally from the blog, Sweet Peas and ABCs, a blog focused on not only cooking for your kids, but getting them involved in the process!  I have known Sally for what seems my entire life.  She is the younger sister of one of my Best Friends and if I wasn’t at my house, there was a good chance I was at theirs.  Sally has always had a love for cooking (I believe it was in High School that she asked for a pasta maker for Christmas) and has created some pretty amazing things in the kitchen.  Sally was a teacher in Chicago until she decided to stay at home with her beautiful daughter and bring both her cooking creativity and teaching to the kitchen and create her blog.  What a perfect way to merge her love for both while sharing it with her daughter!  She is going to be contributing to JIH each month with some amazing recipes and I am so excited to share.  This lady needs some kitchen inspiration (as we all do some days!) and I am so grateful for Sally who can provide it!  I hope you enjoy her contributions as much as I know I will!  And now I will hand it over to Sally…

Hello Juggling in Heels readers! A huge thank you to Sarah for asking me to contribute today so I can share my love of The Great Pumpkin. Gosh, it really is great, isn’t it?!

It’s almost Halloween, so I had to sneak in ONE MORE pumpkin recipe for you. I just can’t get enough of it and will quite honestly be baking and making meals with pumpkin for many months to come. It’s so delicious AND nutritious AND doubles as a great egg-substitute (a huge bonus in my book!).

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

These super soft egg-free pumpkin chocolate chip cookies have been stocked regularly in our house lately. I changed up the original recipe from Baked by Rachel by upping the spice factor a bit and using mini chocolate chips.

The minis in these cookies are a must! They disperse much more evenly throughout the cookie so that each bite is equal parts spicy pumpkin flavor and gooey rich chocolate. Plus, anything mini is just cute.

Mini Chocolate Chips

If you’re in the soft-cookie-loving camp, these are for you.

If you’re in the pumpkin-in-everything-until-Christmas camp, these are for you.

If you’re in the but-I-still-love-my-chocolate-chip-cookies camp, these are for you.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

And if there is such a thing as “The Great Pumpkin,” shouldn’t we leave him a plate of cookies and a glass of milk this Halloween, like a certain big guy in red? Only seems fair.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Little Hands Can…

  • Measure out both wet and dry ingredients
  • Older kids can operate the mixer
  • Stir in the chocolate chips
  • Scoop the cookie dough onto baking sheets
  • Gently press down on the dough balls before baking

Prep time:
Cook time:
Total time:
Ingredients
  • 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie mix)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup mini chocolate chips (We like the “Enjoy Life” brand, as they are allergy-friendly)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat baking liner.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the butter, sugar and brown sugar together. Using a handheld mixer, or stand mixer with the paddle attachment, cream the ingredients together until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the pumpkin puree and vanilla to the bowl and mix until incorporated.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the dry ingredients: flour, salt, spices, baking powder and baking soda. Incorporate the dry ingredients into the pumpkin mixture until it just comes together.
  6. Stir in the mini chocolate chips.
  7. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until chilled.
  8. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, scoop out 1-2 tablespoons of dough and drop onto your cookie sheet. Use your hand to press down slightly on top of each dough ball.
  9. Bake for 10-11 minutes, or until slightly golden brown.
  10. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Recipe adapted from Baked by Rachel

On the Side

Besides being delicious, I love this recipe in particular because of it’s egg-free ways. My little one has an egg allergy, so during these holiday times when treats abound, it’s nice to have an allergy-friendly treat ready to go. We’re always checking labels and unfortunately often saying, “I’m sorry sweetie, you can’t have that, it has egg in it.” She understands as much as a 2-year-old can and with each situation, she understands a bit more about why she can’t eat certain things. I know things could certainly be worse and when it comes to food allergies, Em’s is pretty mild, but for a 2-year-old, it’s a big deal and my heart breaks a little each time we have to say no.

That’s why we’re supporting the “Teal Pumpkin Project” this year, and for many years to come, so that ALL children can enjoy holidays like Halloween. The “Teal Pumpkin Project” is an initiative by FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) to raise awareness about food allergies and promote practices that allow ALL trick-or-treaters to have a fun and safe Halloween.

Teal Pumpkin Project

  • Did you know that approximately 1 in 13 children has a food allergy? On average, that’s two students per classroom, so chances are there are kids with food allergies in your child’s class and in your neighborhood.
  • Did you know that eight foods account for nearly 90% of all allergic reactions? The top eight are milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish.
  • Did you know that the rate of food allergies among children increased 50% between 1997 and 2011 and continues to rise? There is no clear answer why.
(Statistics from FARE)

Teal Pumpkin Project

We painted our pumpkin this past weekend and will display it in front of our home this Saturday night as an indication that we have both “treats” (food) and “tricks” (non-food) for trick-or-treaters that come ’round. Shout out to Target for their great stash of super-fun, non-food items for such an occasion!

Teal Pumpkin Project non-food treat ideas

How can you participate? There are many ways! Sign the pledge at FARE, grab some non-food trick-or-treat items to hand out on Halloween, and paint a pumpkin teal, or print out a free sign from FARE to hang in your window, to show that you have non-food treats to share.

Teal Pumpkin Project

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween!

< Gingham Top (on sale!) >

It’s Friday!  It’s Friday!  I am usually excited for Friday but this one feels even better.  My husband does travel a lot but rarely is it the entire week.  I am not going to lie, I am exhausted and couldn’t be happy that he lands this afternoon.  This week also has given me the idea that cloning moms is not such a bad idea.  Thank goodness for friends who helped out because there were moments I had to be in two places at the same time which is obviously not possible.  It takes a village people!  And lots of coffee!

This floral maxi makes me smile every time I see it.  I would have already ordered it if it was longer.  One of the bummers of being so tall.  But for all of you, I think it is fab!

Every Friday before the weekend hits, I use this mask and absolutely love it.  It provides additional moisture to my skin and only takes 5 minutes.  It is one of my favorite beauty products right now.

Speaking of beauty products, have you heard of these super food tablets?  I haven’t tried them but just ordered.  I am so curious.  I will keep you posted on what I think.

These fringe boots have been taunting me for some time and I finally pulled the trigger.  I have no idea if I am going to actually like them in person but I had to give them a try.

I am a sucker for a classic pump and these suede cherry pumps so not only a fabulous color but they are also currently on sale for only $35!  Use code HALFTIME at checkout.

I posted a picture of this tee on Instagram and it was a hit.  I love the message and believe we all need to embrace our own journey.

This Halloween, I am going back to an old college costume I wore sophomore year.  This movie is one of my favorite cult classics and I couldn’t help but be a Senior again.

I posted about this dress yesterday and still have my eyes stuck on it.  I absolutely love the detail.  It is just too much goodness.

You know me.  I love blanket scarves.  I have come across yet another one and it is on sale for only $20.

Did you take a look at my post on BeautyCounter?  There is only one more week to order and have a portion of your purchase go to Breast Cancer Research.

I am in need of some new workout gear so I have selected some of my top picks.  Any one of these your favorite?

There are so many incredible Fall pieces out there right now that I can’t help but pull together some of my top picks together.  I am just LOVING the cooler temps we have received and need to control myself from buying everything I love.  This is my favorite season to shop for and it is just so good right now!

< Cape / Tank / Denim / Flats (Similar) / Sunglasses >

It is finally starting to feel like Fall around here!  Sure that means only 75 degrees but I WILL TAKE IT!  This past Sunday we took advantage of the cooler weather and hit the Pumpkin Farm.  This has been a tradition since my Oldest was born and one of my favorite things to do with them in the Fall (even if I can sense that they are starting to outgrow up…sad face here.).  I also took advantage of the cooler weather and wore this cape from ShopBuru.  I have an obsession with capes and when I saw this with only a $125 price tag, I didn’t think twice about ordering it.  I love the camel color, the length and the fact that it is thin enough to wear now with a tank but can be layered as it starts to cool down.  It is chic, simple and exactly how Fall should be; cozy.

We found our pumpkins and I got to wear a cape. It was a win/win all around.

< Hat / Tee / Cut Offs (similar) / OTK Boots / Plaid Shirt / Backpack >

There are a number of things the hubby and I love to do together but one that tops the list is going to concerts. We both love music and hearing it live is something we truly enjoy. It makes for the perfect date night and we can’t seem to get enough. This year I think we seen over 10 artists and I have loved every second of it. Though we will see just about any genre of music, country tends to be our favorite. Who doesn’t love throwing on a hat, cut offs and boots to be surrounded by American flags? It is almost like being a teenager again with my main squeeze and we throw all responsibility to the wind, singing, drinking, dancing and just enjoying each other’s company. It is the best. Saturday night we saw Luke Bryan and finished off our concerts for the year. It was the perfect way to end what was an awesome year of shows. Next on deck? StageCoach 2016!

Last Friday night we headed to LA and I wore this lace up dress (similar and major sale) and just loved it. Super comfortable, will look great with tall boots for Fall and is a great price.  The Zac Brown Band at the Hollywood Bowl was incredible and I am certainly not going to miss when he is back next year.  If you haven’t been to the Hollywood Bowl, you must put it on your “to do” list.  It is my favorite venue around.

This Saturday we are still on the concert circuit, heading to Luke Bryan Saturday night.  I couldn’t help but pick up this tee for the show.

Both shows have gotten me excited for Stagecoach next year.  We had gone back and forth on whether we were going to go but we just had too much fun last year to pass it up.  We can’t wait!  Have you been?

Rebecca Taylor is having their Friends and Family event and you can receive 25% off your purchase with code RTFRIEND15.  If there was one item I would pick up, it would be this tank.  I have it in three different colors and wear it ALL THE TIME.  Such a great classic staple.

Last night I came across this mug on Instagram and couldn’t help but smile.  It would make the perfect gift for any moms in your life.  And then their is the teachers one.  How perfect for Christmas gifts right?  I already placed my orders!

When it comes to staying organized, I have started using my phone at times but still love a good planner.  I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this planner by a friend of a friend because I absolutely love the concept.  Sure it is a planner but the focus of it is to also help you stayed focused on your faith in our busy lives.  It has bible verses, inspirational quotes, places for you to schedule time with God, pages to place your prayer requests.  We often think it is important to stay on task with daily responsibilities but our faith sometimes takes the back seat to that.  I love that Deanna incorporated it into one, helping us stay focused on what is most important.  You can order one here.

If you missed the ShopBop Friends and Family sale (I hope you didn’t!  It was so good!), your man can still load up.  The East Dane Friends and Family is still going and it is just the right time to set your man for Fall.  You can shop the entire site here.

Is it weird that I am kind of obsessed with these?  They just look so comfortable.  I may take the plunge.

I love love this classic felt hat and it is currently 30% off with code LAYERUP.  So perfect for Fall and Winter, even in the pink!

I am so excited for scarf weather and this one by Free People is just what I need to bundle up with a warm cup of coffee and a fireplace. Add these leg warmers, these leggings and this cable knit and I won’t be leaving the house.

Here are some other scarves that I am loving and most of them are under $50!

< OTK Boots >

I am been searching for just the right OTK boots for some time. I wanted a great pair that I could wear with dresses and jeans that were not too dressy for every day wear. I wanted a pair that looked great but wasn’t too expensive as I just wasn’t sure how much I would actually wear them in Southern California. I needed a pair that actually hit me over the knee, which is a huge challenged due to my height. And finally, I needed a pair that was not too big around the leg. So often boots that are too loose slouch down because they can’t fit right around my legs. A laundry list of requirements, I know.

It did take some time but I finally came across these OTK boots by Free People and I decided to give them a shot. I loved the price tag (under $250), the color, the fact that they were flat and seemed to look awesome in person.

The review?

LOVE them. They hit over my knee, are tight around my legs without being too tight and are crazy comfortable. I have been dying to wear them but unfortunately a heat wave has kept me from them but this weekend they will be making their debut at the Luke Bryan concert.

Doesn’t it feel good when you spend your time looking for something, have patience and finally find it? If you are looking for a good pair of OTK boots, I have included some other favorites below.

Happy Boot Shopping!
