Years back, I never really thought about taking care of my hair.  In fact, I did the opposite.  I was a fake blonde for a long time, having to get it colored every couple weeks to keep the dark from getting through.  I straightened it.  I washed it all the time with whatever shampoo and whatever conditioner.  I just did not spend much time thinking about it all and the damage it was doing.  Then, after the birth of my second, my hair started falling it.  It was the normal post-pregnancy hair loss but to me, it was devastating.  I have very thin, fine hair as it is and really couldn’t afford to lose any.  For the first time in forever, I did not take my hair for granted and was taking hair pills, buying the best re-growth products and doing whatever I could to save what I had.  Eight years later, I still take my hair seriously.

Because of unwanted grey hairs, I get my hair colored more than I would like to.  Really, it is every 4-5 weeks.  This is not because I have a head full of greys.  This is because I would prefer to never see one grey hair and for that reason, I make sure I don’t.  I also love to hvae curls in my hair.  It gives volume to my normally flat, straight hair and just looks better.  For these reasons, I have focused on two areas when it comes to my at home hair products; not over washing and protecting.  These are the 5 products that I use each week to ensure that my hair stays healthy and vibrant.

Hair Products

Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo
One of my biggest goals with my hair is to not wash it very often. With fine, thin hair, this is very hard to do and often within 24 hours it can look greasy and gross, especially after a workout. For the longest time, I couldn’t get myself to a point where I didn’t wash it every day. I finally committed and now only wash my hair 2-3 times a week, depending on what I have going on. The only way I make it this long is by using this dry shampoo. It is my favorite. It smells great, doesn’t create a ton of build up in my hair and is easy to use.

Kerastase Densifique Bain Densite
This shampoo has done wonders for my hair. I use a very small amount on the days that I wash and has kept my hair looking healthy without weighing it down. It adds body and I love the texture it leaves on my hair once washed.

Schwarzkopf Q10 Time Restore
Because I am only washing my hair twice (maybe three times a week), when I do, I use a mask conditioner to help provide some much needed moisture to help protect my hair. I really like this one because it does not need to sit on your hair very long, rinses out easily and does not weigh my hair down. I must note that I use a very small amount and do not put it anywhere close to my roots, just through the middle of my hair and the ends.

Kerastase Discipline Fluidissime
After getting out of the shower and towel drying my hair, I spray this heat protector all over and comb through. It has done an amazing job of protecting my hair from the heat I use from the blowdryer and curling iron. I also love the smell.

Schwarzkopf BC Bonecure Hair Rescue Sealed Ends
After I comb through the heat protector, I use this on my ends, just to help protect healthy ends and heal ends that may need it.  You only need to use a very small amount.

After both of these products, I style as usual.

One final thing I have done that is helping all those baby hairs along our hairline is changing up my part.  It was suggested to me that if you constantly change your part, your hair will not continue to break in the same places.  I am not sure if it is working as I just started but I will keep you posted.  Plus, it is fun to change things up a bit!

Just a note to my recommendations. Everyone’s hair is different. Just like our skin, something that might work for me may not work for you. The best thing to do is ask your hair professional. My girl has been instrumental in making sure I am using the proper products. I do love these ones and highly suggest giving them a try but only if you think any of the reasons they are benefiting me, they might also benefit you.

With this post I am signing out for the rest of November. I am really looking forward to enjoying next week with the family. I wish you all a Blessed Thanksgiving Holiday.

This month for my beauty finds I thought I would share what my day to day makeup is. Sure I love to really do it up for a night out on the town but that is just not necessary during the week. I really like to keep it simple and quick so that I can get out the door and get my day started. These are the 7 products that I use Monday through Friday when I want to look pulled together without looking like I have piled on the products.

Smashbox Liquid Halo
No matter how many foundations I go out to try, I always end up back with Liquid Halo. Chanel, Dior, Laura Mercier. The list goes on and on with what I have tried and none of them create the finish that this one does. This foundation lasts all day, keep my face shine free and looks great in photos (I necessary when taking blog photos).

Chanel Les 5 Ombres De Chanel Eye Shadow
After getting this palette I stopped using all the other eye shadow I own. It is perfect for day to day use when using the light base colors but also helps create a smoky eye for a more dramatic look. Within these 5 shades, I am able to create any look I want and I love that versatility.

Maybelline Great Lash Big Washable Mascara
This is another product that I always seem to come back to no matter how often I try something else. Granted, I do love Diorshow too, but this one is easy, cheap, applies extremely well and I can pick it up at CVS. I think it does just as good of a job of some of the more expensive mascaras so really, there is no reason to switch.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil
Years ago I was told by a makeup artist that one of the biggest mistakes a girl can make is not filling in her eyebrows when doing her makeup. It is like looking at a photo without a frame. The face will look fine but when the eyebrows are done, the entire package looks so much better. I take my eyebrows seriously. In reality, I will walk out of the house without a stitch of makeup on BUT will still fill in my eyebrows. It really does make such a difference. This pencil is my absolute favorite. I have used it for years and feel that it not only goes on extremely well but matches my eyebrows the best, making it look natural, not like I colored in my brows.

Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner
If there is one item that I really do not like applying, it is eyeliner. I do not like the pencils because I just cannot seem to make the line apply seamlessly and am constantly correcting it. I also tend to like a more dramatic line that brightens the eye. This liquid liner has become a favorite of mine because it is incredibly easy to apply. I can simply move across my lash line and it will apply a straight line without any mess. No pulling of the eyelid to make it straight. No going over it a second time. It is really simple and that is just what I need.

NARS Blush
This is another product that I have used for years and haven’t felt any reason to change. With blush, there are so many different colors to choose from so it really is about finding the right shade for your skin tone during that time of year but this one is one of my favorites. I prefer powder blush over cream blush simply out of application preference. This is just a classic blush and I love it.

BeautyCounter Lip Sheer in Nude
I know that I had mentioned this last month but it has become a daily staple that I thought I would mention it again. I do love my reds and wines when it comes to lipstick but it is nice to have a lip sheer that I can wear everyday that moisturizes my lips and provides a nice nude color. No red to have dramatic lips every day! I keep this in my bag and constantly apply as I am running around. It is such a great basic for any skin tone.

< Citrus Mimosa Hand Wash & Hand Lotion >

I will admit, for a long time, I never really looked at ingredients in my skincare and home products.  I went with what was recommended and “safe” and never thought a second about it.  Then I had an allergic reaction to something (I still don’t know what!) and my face broke out into a rash for a week.  That was it.  No longer was I going to just accept what I was told but was going to take a look at it for myself.  That is when I was introduced to BeautyCounter.

BeautyCounter was created to provide skincare, makeup and home products that are safe for us and our children.  When doing research, I was shocked to learn that there is very little regulation on what goes into the products we and our children use and that there are many chemicals used that are banned in other countries.  While Europe has banned 1300 ingredients, the US has only banned 11!  11!  I find that incredibly sad to hear in a country that is so forward thinking.  At BeautyCounter, they have banned 1500 ingredients, only using products that are SAFE.

I tried out a number of products by BeautyCounter over the last month and have a few that have become favorites.  Starting with general hand cleaning, I just love the Citrus Mimosa Hand Wash & Hand Lotion.  For our guest bathroom, I want products that my guests are going to enjoy using that are only going to have a beautiful presentation and smell amazing.  I absolutely love this set.  Its clean look fits right in with the decor but the “all organic” ingredients make it safe for my family and our friends to use on a daily basis.

< Finishing Powder & Lip Sheer in Nude >

When it comes to makeup, there are two products that I have fallen in love with.  With how hot and humid it has been around here, a finishing powder has been an absolute necessity to make sure that I am not shining all day long.  I had been using an alternative powder for some time but instantly changed after using this finishing powder for a few days.  It leaves a very smooth finish to your face while absorbing shine and making my “face” last all day.  This lip sheer has become my new daily favorite.  I love the nude color and it  provides so much moisture to my lips.  I was actually shocked at how smooth it went on when applied and it began replacing the chapstick I would use all day long.  I like this so much that I am already ready to order it in more colors.  I completely understand why it is a best seller.

< Nice Do Shampoo & Not a Knot Conditioner >

Oh the kids.  The ones I worry the most about.  I am always looking for products that are safe to use but will also get the job done.  Sometimes I find that shampoos and conditioners that offer safe products tend to not smell as great or work as well as traditional shampoos and conditioners.  These products not only smell great but actually get the job done.  I had heard great things about these and am so happy I gave them a try.  They are in each kids shower and will continue to be there for some time.  I am now excited to try the sunscreen because of how much I enjoy these products.

There are still a number of products by BeautyCounter that I haven’t tried but so far, so good.  I am excited to get some more a try.  If you have thought about trying out a product or two, I highly suggest ordering this month.  With it being “Breast Cancer Awareness” month, Sally, the consultant I have been working with, is donating a portion of her sales to Breast Cancer Research.  Having a sister that has battled and overcome breast cancer, she understands the need to support research so that one day we can find a cure.  You can shop the entire line here and support a great cause at the same time.

As I mentioned in this post, I have really started taking a deeper look into skincare and how I can help “preserve” this face of mine.  I am not getting any younger!  Each month I plan on sharing products that I have started to use that I really love in hopes that you find some inspiration or recommendations that can help with your skincare routine.  This doesn’t mean that I will only have one beauty post a month, it just means that I am going to group together some of my favorites from the month to make shopping easy.

This month, I have been dealing with humidity and dryness.  Yes, it seems there is either too much moisture or it is way too dry.  I never agreed to live in Florida or Arizona but it seems California has taken on an entirely new climate that I have just not been a fan of and my skincare has needed some help thanks to it.  These products have definitely come in handy over the last few weeks.

Beauty Blender
Apply makeup can be tricky. I normally use a brush but every now and then I will simply use my fingers. The problem with both is getting a perfect application that is providing coverage but not looking too heavy. Especially with the humidity. Too much on can quickly look TERRIBLE on your skin and your face can seem as if it is melting off. Not only does this sponge provide streak free coverage but what I really love about it is that the makeup sits on TOP of the sponge and doesn’t get absorbed. That means you do not apply too much AND it doesn’t waste a lot of product. This is what I love about using my fingers but it never looks as seamless as using a brush or sponge. This solves that problem. This product can also be washed and used over and over again.

Bliss Body Butter
My skin has felt so dry lately and I was fortunate enough to have a friend give me this body butter for my birthday. It is the perfect balance between providing more moisture than a traditional lotion but not feeling too thick of greasy like some lotions do. This body butter comes in a number of different scents but right now I am using the Grapefruit + Aloe.

Radical Skincare Instant Revitalizing Mask
I am discovering that with age, comes dryness…especially living in a dry climate. When it isn’t humid outside it has been extremely dry. Add to this my lack of water (I am terrible about drinking what I should!) and my love for coffee and wine and there are definitely days I can tell my skin is looking WAY TOO dry. This oxygen mask instantly provides moisture, vitamins and and energy to your skin, helping you to look instantly refreshed. It is an easy mask to apply, that simply foams up and in minutes is wiped away. I love using it prior to a night out to help condition my skin and allow my makeup to look much better.

Beauty Counter Lip Sheer
Okay, I will be honest. I haven’t used this one yet, but after reading the reviews, I placed an order for it. I love a dark lip (hence my obsession with red lipstick) but on a day to day, I don’t want to always show up at the school with bright red lips. I need a good nude lipstick and this one comes with a “bestseller” tag on it. Beauty Counter is known for putting your health first, using only all natural ingredients that make them actually safe for you while also providing all the same benefits. Based on reviews this lip sheer provides conditioning and moisturizing benefits while delivering a beautiful sheer color. I am excited to try it out. I have been testing a lot of other Beauty Counter products so keep an eye out for more reviews.

One word. LIFESAVER. With this humidity, my skin has become so shiny so quickly after applying my makeup. It has bothered me so much (no one likes shiny photos!) and I have been carrying around my powder and brush for touch ups. This is basically a re-usable blotting sponge. So simple. Instead of carrying around your blotting papers, this little case holds two sponges that can be used and then washed, to be used again. They are such a quick way to combat shine and I keep it with me at all times. This little compact is made by Beauty Blender and I am such a fan of both.

One other item that I recently started using thanks to another birthday gift is the NuSkin NaPCA Moisture Mist. Just a little spray on the face throughout the day gives your skin that much needed moisture on a dry day and will help keep your makeup looking good. I have only been using this one for a few days but so far, so good!

As we begin school today, I am about to take my own advice and return to being the morning person that I am, rather than the lazier morning lady I have been this summer.  My second video with Aveeno Active Naturals just launched and it is the perfect time to remind myself what simple steps I can take to get back into the groove.  With so many moms getting back into the morning routine, I figured this could help us all! Here are my tips on becoming a morning person with Aveeno.

There is a big reality that started to set in a few years ago and is now hitting me smack in the face.  With my 37th birthday just a few weeks away, I am noticing that my skin is a bit drier, the fine lines are beginning to appear, exhaustion is present daily and it takes a little more than lotion and soap to keep this face looking youthful.  I firmly believe that when utilizing the proper products, you can help postpone the effects of aging.  I used to be really good about posting on what I use daily and then I began to completely flake on all of you.  After a weekend with my bestie, who is a product guru, I got excited about new products and sharing what I have found that works.  So this post kicks off my re-introduction to some of the products that I use and why.  I promise I will keep this going…

When it comes to what I used to do vs. what I currently do, things have gotten a little more complicated.  When I was younger, there were three simple things I would put on my face before walking out the door.  It was some eyeliner/mascara for the eyes, lip gloss for the lips and a quick powder or foundation (rarely) for the skin.  One, two, three and done.  It was really too simple.  Now that I have gotten a little more mature (we will go with that instead of older), it seems those three quick steps don’t cut it anymore.  It is just the truth.  To achieve the same look it just takes a few more things.  These are what I have added to the rotation… Screen shot 2015-08-24 at 3.31.23 PM Eye Masks and Concealer

So yes, I really do only wear eyeliner and mascara still, but I most certainly cannot stop there when it comes to my eyes.  I tend to have dark circles thanks to exhaustion and perhaps a little puffiness thanks to not enough water in a given day (I try, really I do).  In order to get the same youthful look, I have added these eye masks and this concealer.  These eye masks help to reduce puffiness and light dark circles, helping my eyes to look a little less tired.  They are perfect to use daily or simply before a night out on the town when you may be wearing a tad bit more makeup.  This concealer, on the other hand, goes on before I ever step out of the house.  Even if I have no other make up on.  It is the only concealer I have used that does a phenomenal job of keeping me looking refreshed all day long.

Lip Mask and Red Lipstick

This lip mask is new to the rotation.  I honestly have never really worried about my lips much but I am starting to notice that they are slowly becoming less full.  I still love my lips but agree that they can use a little attention every now and then to keep the moisture and fullness alive.  This mask takes 5 minutes and does transform your lips, removing the dry skin and increasing the fullness of your lips.  As for the red lipstick, I have just become obsessed.  I never wore lipstick (hence the mention of lipgloss) but the small addition of color to my lips transforms my look and really brightens my entire face.  I am a sucker for classic red and usually stick with this at all times.  I know a color this bright can scare people but the reality of it is, if I have this on with a pair of sunglasses at school drop off, I look way more put together than I really am.  Smoke and mirrors people.

Vitamin C Mask and Primer

Oh the days of using just a little powder or foundation and then running out the door.  I wish I could still do that.  Youthful skin that was always hydrated and never needed coverage.  I am jealous of my youthful self.  Today, I need to work a little harder at it.  I do think it is incredibly important to do masks throughout the week to keep your skin vibrant and youthful but one of my favorites is a Vitamin C mask.  It adds hydration and brightens the skin all at the same time and I swear I look younger when it is washed off.  A hydrated face wears makeup so much better than a dehydrated one and using this mask will help your foundation look better.  That takes me to the primer.  We all need primer.  It preps the skin, allows your foundation to be applied smoothly AND helps to keep your foundation on all day.  This one is my absolute favorite and I don’t plan on making a change any time soon.  You can absolutely see the difference when applying foundation without it.  No bueno.

There is a small start into the products that I use and I will keep them coming.  It is always fun to share and I would love to hear what you love too!  Feel free to share!

Eye shadows sometimes look amazing in the package, or even when applied by a professional and then end up being anything but. I have discovered this one too many times and have way too many unused eye shadows to show for it. So in an effort to save you the time and that twinge of frustration when the color just doesn’t look quite right, here is my list of the top four colors to get yourself now.

1. Chanel – Taupe
Your eye color will pop when you apply this just in the crease of the eye. Chanel shadows have baked in color for a more saturated pigment and longer lasting wear. And this easy to wear, classic shade will last you forever.

2. Mac – Brown Down
This is the best neutral brown I’ve ever found. No shimmer, no fuss, just the perfect brown. You can use this in the crease for a more natural daytime look or all over the lid for a smokier eye.

3. Stila – Kitten
Yes, every beauty editor is correct. This is the best highlighting, shimmering shade you can find.

4. Bobbi Brown – Rose Gold
The husband of eye shadow colors. Like I’m married to wearing it. The shade is so pretty all over the lid and is perfect alone in the daytime or worn as a base in the evening. It has the right amount of shimmer and warms up the complexion beautifully.

Until next time JIH readers, happy shadow shopping!

I asked for three different moisturizers for Christmas. I like giving my husband choices. If I’m going to tell him exactly what I want, I feel like the least I can do is give him some choice in the matter. This moisturizing obsession started long ago. When I moved in with Juggling in Heels blogger Sarah, I was obsessed with Kiehls. And I was also obsessed with everything in my new bathroom matching. So I walked down to the cosmetics department and dropped half a commission check on product before move in day. And as I lined the counter with my matching Kiehls containers I felt really, ridiculously happy.

So needless to say I was super pleased Christmas morning when I opened Fresh lotion and shower gel in lemon sugar. Matching. Heaven. And I didn’t even mention wanting the shower gel. Nice work Aaron. But then ten minutes later I opened moisturizer number two. And then another five minutes later, number three. At which point I seriously started laughing. To which he replied, “Let’s be honest Anne, you wanted all of them.” And really, I did. So I graciously accepted and promptly lined my bathroom counters.

Fast forward through one month of use and two of those gifts have become bottles I will never let go empty. Add to those two new finds: a stem cell hand cream and a toner that acts like a soothing lotion and there you have it. My favorite moisturizers, of all time.

Bioderma Atoderm Crème

Do you read articles about French women and feel more than a bit envious? How do they look so good when every article says they never wash their hair, don’t wear much makeup and drink a ton of wine? I don’t get it. So I did some research on popular skincare products in France and this moisturizer came up again and again. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a bottle. And It’s absolutely amazing.

It is incredibly rich so let me be honest, this is not a “rub into my legs then put on a pair of jeans” lotion. It needs time to settle in. I use this when I shower and can hang out in my robe for a bit. Overnight is even better. Your skin will be the softest it ever has been. Another tip: use this as your night cream. I repeat, use it. On your face. As a night cream. It is so rich, you will not breakout and even retinoid dry skin will be supple. Trust me. Especially under your eyes. There is literally no irritation at all and your fine lines will diminish with all of the moisture.

Origins Ginger Souffle Whipped Body Cream

The smell. Oh the smell. I love this body cream. It makes my whole bathroom smell like a spa when I get out of the shower. This product will immediately sink into skin. Meaning yes, you can put it on and then pull on your skinny jeans. No problem. It makes my skin instantly soft and feels so luxurious. If you can, try to pick this up in a set and get the Incredible Spreadable scrub. Same scent in an awesome exfoliator for the whole body.

Okay, so I’m dipping my toes in the stem cell waters. I’ve read enough to know that this is where skincare is headed. And the reason this research is making it’s way into our moisturizers is because of what stem cells can do for our internal organs. Because if it works that well on the inside well, why not use it on our largest organ, the skin.

Enter Stemology. They are the first company to launch products with both human and stem cell technologies. And do so ethically. Which in this category is really, really important. Just trust me. I’m testing a face serum and a hand cream to share with you JIH readers. (PS – giveaway in your future!) I will tell you about the serum next month but I can’t wait another minute to tell you about this hand cream.

It is so light but also incredibly hydrating. Which seems like an impossibility. I have typically left hand cream application for bedtime because I literally cannot shake hands with someone or open the car door for like an hour afterwards. So when I applied my makeup five minutes after putting this hand cream on I was thrilled that the mascara didn’t go flying at the mirror. And then my hands stayed soft for hours. Done. In love.

Then add that it minimizes brown spots and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles and I’m now a lifer. I apply it daily on my hands and forearms and love that the natural antioxidants are keeping me from aging any quicker than I need to.

Paula’s Choice Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner

I started using a retinoid cream about three months ago. I knew my English/Irish skin was not going to love it. But I also knew it would do amazing things that only retinol can. So I put together a skincare routine to ensure I minimized irritation. And I’m not kidding when I say, I think this toner was the game changer of the whole operation. I can honestly say that my skin never reacted poorly to the retinol. No redness, no itchiness no flakiness. And I started at 1%, which is a pretty gutsy move for someone who has never used it before. I cannot tell you how happy I am that I unearthed this amazing product. If you are at all sensitive or need extra hydration you have to try this toner. You will absolutely love.
Okay, all done. Go take a bath and put some fancy lotion on.

Until next time.

I take my eyes seriously.  With three kids and a busy, busy life, I tend to look more tired than I would prefer at times and dark circles rear their ugly head when I am a little too worn out.  Since exhaustion is not going to pass any time soon, I have tried out numerous products to help hide dark circles and help fight against fine lines (oh yes, those are starting to pop up now too!) and make me look more awake without caking on products and makeup. I have settled in on these six items and I absolutely love them.  Yes, they are more expensive.  I truly believe in investing in good skin care products and I cannot say enough about each of these.  In fact, I have been loyal to most of them for years and do not plan on making any changes.

Screen shot 2015-01-15 at 10.34.34 AM

Shiseido Future Solution LX Eye and Lip Contour Regenerating Cream ($130) – I cannot say enough about this eye cream.  I feel that I have used every single eye cream out there and none of them really gave me the results I was looking for.  Some worked for a bit but over time, they seemed to stop.  This eye cream is amazing.  It is expensive but it lasts forever.  I put just a little bit around my eyes and lips every morning and evening and have definitely seen a change.  Everyone needs a good eye cream and I highly suggest giving this one a try.

Eve Lom Morning Time Cleanser ($60) and Eve Lom Cleanser ($80) – I have used Eve Lom cleaners since 2011 and will use it forever.  I have tried others but nothing has made my skin feel as good as Eve Lom.  I use the Morning Cleanser each morning in the shower (the steam of the shower helps trigger the cleanser) and I use the cleanser at night with my Clarisonic.  If you have never used these products, I would suggest beginning with the classic cleanser.  It provides moisture to your skin while wiping it clean of all face and eye makeup and daily build up.  Your skin feels incredibly clean and smooth after every wash.  Both cleansers are extremely gently on your eyes and allow you to remove all your unwanted makeup without having to scrub your eye skin off.

Cle du Peau Concealer ($70) – Okay, so this one was a tough one for me to try at first.  I just could not wrap my head around spending $70 on a concealer.  After a friend (who knows everything about everything when it comes to beauty products) told me that it really was THE BEST concealer, I finally gave in.  My dark circles were getting the best of me.  This product is amazing and worth every penny.  It is the first concealer that I have ever used that not only erases dark circles and makes my eyes look bright and alive but is also lasts all day.  I have never used a concealer like it.  It was my favorite new product of 2014 and I now understand why it has won so many beauty awards.

DIOR DiorShow Mascara ($25) – I do not know what I need to say about this.  It seems everyone loves it and uses it.  Even the makeup people fall back to Diorshow when asking for a classic mascara that is going to open up your eyes.  I have really long lashes and it doesn’t leave any marks on the top of my lids, helps brighten my eyes and never looks clumpy.  It has been a staple for years.

Chanel Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner ($32) – I do not tend to wear a lot of eye makeup during the week but there are two products I wear every day; the above mascara and this eyeliner.  I absolutely hate when eyeliner runs, wears off or just makes you look silly by the end of the day.  This eyeliner stays fresh and in place all day long, no matter how much I am running around.  It is also extremely easy to apply..always a plus.  I spend about 2 minutes doing my eye makeup in the morning and that is how fast I can get this on, the mascara in place and run off to get things done.

Now you know my secret to looking away even when I am completely sleep deprived.  And on those terrible days when even these products cannot help me, my other quick-fix solution is oversized sunglasses and red lipstick.  I promise, those will make you look pulled together and chic even if you are sleep walking.

I am so excited today because it is the first post of the new Juggling in Heels contributor, Anne.  Anne has contributed to JIH in the past (her previous post is here, which gives our entire background and why I love her so much) but will now be contributing a beauty post once a month.  The reason for this is, Anne knows everything about everything when it comes to beauty.  She is obsessed with trying new products and she tends to be the one I go to when I need to change things up.  Keep an eye out for her upcoming posts.  I know you are going to love them.

Imagine that I’m your best friend. Okay so I know you don’t really know me yet. But trust me, after I walk you through the aisles at Sephora, I will totally be your beauty best friend. Because I love products. I ask everyone what they are wearing (and why, which I’m realizing now may be so annoying). Like I maybe have been known to send a text that reads, “Your skin looked so good last time I saw you at the grocery store. What foundation are you using?”
So there’s that. But I also try everything. My baby has really spent way too much time in his carrier while I bend over to test lipstick on my wrist. Well, at least he’s close to his mama. So I know what works and what doesn’t and I’m super opinionated. Just like a good best friend should be.

Let me introduce you to three products that have totally changed my life this season.

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide

I have been dating Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer on and off for years. I’ll use a bottle and then jump to the newest it product. There was that two year love affair with a Chanel foundation they don’t make anymore. Sigh. But somehow I always end up coming back to Laura. So when she launched a new foundation a few months ago I immediately went to try it. Oh. My. Gosh.

Let me just say that I have tried every foundation, BB cream and tinted moisturizer on the market. Okay maybe not all, but enough to shock you. I’ll just say that. They typically end up too heavy, settling into fine lines or just making my skin look super dry. Enter Laura Mercier’s new foundation. I am like head over heels in love. It’s a tad more coverage than the tinted moisturizer so dark spots and small pimples are covered easily. And the amazing thing is it’s matte without being flat or settling into lines.

I’m promising you, you will be in love. I use Linen which was sold out at half of the stores I tried so I am imagining its a popular color. If you are fair to medium it’s probably the shade for you. Don’t be shy to ask for a sample. I took it home and tried it in every light possible. Perfection. You’re welcome.

Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara

I have a mascara addiction like I am sure most of you do. I totally don’t mind a drugstore brand but I have one major pet peeve. Running mascara. I hate it. I have definitely walked away from more than one conversation, looked in the mirror and realized there was mascara on my cheek. So annoying.

So I’ve been on the hunt for something that doesn’t run. Fiber mascaras are usually the big winners here because they wrap around the lash and don’t smudge until you hit them with some warm water. So let me tell you. Since converting to Trish mascara I have cried, worked out, left it on overnight and played with my kids for hours and not one flake, smudge or random black stuff near my eyes. Ever.

It’s not cheap. At $31 it is on the high side for a mascara but totally worth it. I like to put mine on, wait five minutes and then curl my lashes. It’s like I just got extensions. Seriously.

Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1

I have been looking for a good dry shampoo that doubles as a body builder forever. For some reason every product that I’ve used for volume ends up heavy or crunchy. So I picked up this travel size at Sephora and immediately went back for the full. I just let my hair air dry and then spray this all over. I immediately have volume and “just got back from the beach” hair. It smells heavenly and is totally my saving grace with two small boys and absolutely no time to do my hair.

So there you are. Don’t you feel closer already? Go get a latte and shop. Enjoy.

Until next time, JIH readers.
