Tunic 1

< Cover Up Tunic (c/o) / Leggings / Fringe Boots / Scarf / Sunglasses >

One of the key elements I think about when purchasing an item is its versatility.  When you live in Orange County, there is so much flexibility on what you wear thanks to the weather that you have a good chance of wearing a lot of your closet in both Summer and Winter.  I have friends that live in cooler Winter temperatures and I always have found it shocking when they say they pack up their Summer clothes, not to be seen again for months.  We are extremely fortunate and I am grateful that I get so much more use out of my items thanks to the moderate temperatures we have.  Is there a limit to this though?  Are there any pieces that just have to stay in Summer?  Sure there are, but there are also items that you would think will only work for Summer but with a few changes, can work right into your Winter wardrobe.  One of these pieces is the bathing suit cover up tunic.  Do I sound crazy?  Take a look.

Here is how my tunic is normally paired when it comes to summer.  Nothing but a beach towel and swimsuit.

Sure this could go to the wayside with cooler temperatures but with some fringe boots, scarf and leggings, it instantly transform into the perfect cool weather ensemble…

It really is that simple.  Some times our closets just take an extra second to think about new ways to wear them and suddenly, we have expanded the piece’s use, giving it a lot more versatility.  I highly suggest thinking about some other items in your closet that don’t necessarily have to be packed up just yet.

When the temperatures start to cool, I always tend to fall back to basics with my day to day looks.

< Dress / Booties / Backpack >

Stripes and Fringe. You cannot get much easier than a striped dress and a handbag that adds a little character. I wore this last week to Mass at my children’s school. It is a dress I wore on Easter last year but is so comfortable that I now wear it on constant rotation. I also love the price at under $100. This backpack has also become a staple, making it so much easier to hold on to my things when running around. I don’t know why we are all not running around with backpacks. They were made for moms.

< Jacket / Tee / Denim / Boots >

Denim on denim. Some people love it, some people hate it. I am on the side of the more denim on denim, the better. It is so simple yet chic when done correctly and it makes getting dressed easy and comfortable. And can we talk about these Moccasin boots? They are under $100 and honestly, I would wear them every day if they didn’t stand out so much. I am not sad that with El Nino, they may need to be left at home because they are my favorite shoe for Winter.

< Jacket / Sleeveless Shirt / Overalls / Flats / Backpack >

Just like the backpack, I am not sure why I ever gave up on Overalls. Sure it took me a while to get back on the wagon but now that I am on, I am not planning on getting off any time soon. These ones are under $100 and so comfortable and I wear them at least once a week. I also love this jacket I picked up at Bardot in Newport Beach because it is heavy enough to keep me warm when it is cool outside but not too heavy for our Orange County weather. The best part of this outfit? I was able to easily transition it to a dinner look with just a pair of leggings and OTK boots.

Do you ever stare into your closet and think to yourself, “I have nothing to wear”, even though it is very clear that based on your closet, you absolutely have something you can wear.  I guess we should re-phrase this to “I have something to wear but I don’t want to wear any of it”.  It happens to the best of us.  No matter how many clothes we have, there are just some moments when none of it seems to work.

This happened to me last Sunday.  It was warm again outside and I have really gotten tired of wearing my Summer clothes.  I was not interested in anything I had and was dreaming of the opportunity to put on a coat, sweater, scarf, pants and boots.  I just wasn’t interested in playing the “warm weather game” with Mother Nature and so, I professed, “I have nothing to wear!”.  Then I started looking piece by piece, hanger by hanger, and came across this Anine Bing skirt.  I had purchased this skirt a LONG time ago (Anine Bing is one of my favorites.  If you have not visited her site, you must!) and for some reason or another, I had never worn it.  In fact, I hadn’t even taken off the tags.  I remember when I first ordered it I was having a bit of trouble styling it to my liking and then it seems I put it in the black hole of my closet and never looked at it again.  Finding it on Sunday suddenly inspired me and instantly, I had something to wear.

That is the funny thing about our closets.  So often, we protest that there is nothing there that we like and we quickly order clothes in order to “help the cause”.  The truth is though, if we calm down a second, we have a TON of things to wear and sometimes it just takes a little creativity and re-inventing of a piece to create a fab look without spending a penny.

< Gingham Top (on sale!) >

It’s Friday!  It’s Friday!  I am usually excited for Friday but this one feels even better.  My husband does travel a lot but rarely is it the entire week.  I am not going to lie, I am exhausted and couldn’t be happy that he lands this afternoon.  This week also has given me the idea that cloning moms is not such a bad idea.  Thank goodness for friends who helped out because there were moments I had to be in two places at the same time which is obviously not possible.  It takes a village people!  And lots of coffee!

This floral maxi makes me smile every time I see it.  I would have already ordered it if it was longer.  One of the bummers of being so tall.  But for all of you, I think it is fab!

Every Friday before the weekend hits, I use this mask and absolutely love it.  It provides additional moisture to my skin and only takes 5 minutes.  It is one of my favorite beauty products right now.

Speaking of beauty products, have you heard of these super food tablets?  I haven’t tried them but just ordered.  I am so curious.  I will keep you posted on what I think.

These fringe boots have been taunting me for some time and I finally pulled the trigger.  I have no idea if I am going to actually like them in person but I had to give them a try.

I am a sucker for a classic pump and these suede cherry pumps so not only a fabulous color but they are also currently on sale for only $35!  Use code HALFTIME at checkout.

I posted a picture of this tee on Instagram and it was a hit.  I love the message and believe we all need to embrace our own journey.

This Halloween, I am going back to an old college costume I wore sophomore year.  This movie is one of my favorite cult classics and I couldn’t help but be a Senior again.

I posted about this dress yesterday and still have my eyes stuck on it.  I absolutely love the detail.  It is just too much goodness.

You know me.  I love blanket scarves.  I have come across yet another one and it is on sale for only $20.

Did you take a look at my post on BeautyCounter?  There is only one more week to order and have a portion of your purchase go to Breast Cancer Research.

I am in need of some new workout gear so I have selected some of my top picks.  Any one of these your favorite?

< Booties / cut offs / silk tunic / hat >

There are so many incredible Fall pieces out there right now that I can’t help but pull together some of my top picks together.  I am just LOVING the cooler temps we have received and need to control myself from buying everything I love.  This is my favorite season to shop for and it is just so good right now!

< Cape / Tank / Denim / Flats (Similar) / Sunglasses >

It is finally starting to feel like Fall around here!  Sure that means only 75 degrees but I WILL TAKE IT!  This past Sunday we took advantage of the cooler weather and hit the Pumpkin Farm.  This has been a tradition since my Oldest was born and one of my favorite things to do with them in the Fall (even if I can sense that they are starting to outgrow up…sad face here.).  I also took advantage of the cooler weather and wore this cape from ShopBuru.  I have an obsession with capes and when I saw this with only a $125 price tag, I didn’t think twice about ordering it.  I love the camel color, the length and the fact that it is thin enough to wear now with a tank but can be layered as it starts to cool down.  It is chic, simple and exactly how Fall should be; cozy.

We found our pumpkins and I got to wear a cape. It was a win/win all around.

< Hat / Tee / Cut Offs (similar) / OTK Boots / Plaid Shirt / Backpack >

There are a number of things the hubby and I love to do together but one that tops the list is going to concerts. We both love music and hearing it live is something we truly enjoy. It makes for the perfect date night and we can’t seem to get enough. This year I think we seen over 10 artists and I have loved every second of it. Though we will see just about any genre of music, country tends to be our favorite. Who doesn’t love throwing on a hat, cut offs and boots to be surrounded by American flags? It is almost like being a teenager again with my main squeeze and we throw all responsibility to the wind, singing, drinking, dancing and just enjoying each other’s company. It is the best. Saturday night we saw Luke Bryan and finished off our concerts for the year. It was the perfect way to end what was an awesome year of shows. Next on deck? StageCoach 2016!

Last Friday night we headed to LA and I wore this lace up dress (similar and major sale) and just loved it. Super comfortable, will look great with tall boots for Fall and is a great price.  The Zac Brown Band at the Hollywood Bowl was incredible and I am certainly not going to miss when he is back next year.  If you haven’t been to the Hollywood Bowl, you must put it on your “to do” list.  It is my favorite venue around.

This Saturday we are still on the concert circuit, heading to Luke Bryan Saturday night.  I couldn’t help but pick up this tee for the show.

Both shows have gotten me excited for Stagecoach next year.  We had gone back and forth on whether we were going to go but we just had too much fun last year to pass it up.  We can’t wait!  Have you been?

Rebecca Taylor is having their Friends and Family event and you can receive 25% off your purchase with code RTFRIEND15.  If there was one item I would pick up, it would be this tank.  I have it in three different colors and wear it ALL THE TIME.  Such a great classic staple.

Last night I came across this mug on Instagram and couldn’t help but smile.  It would make the perfect gift for any moms in your life.  And then their is the teachers one.  How perfect for Christmas gifts right?  I already placed my orders!

When it comes to staying organized, I have started using my phone at times but still love a good planner.  I have been anxiously awaiting the release of this planner by a friend of a friend because I absolutely love the concept.  Sure it is a planner but the focus of it is to also help you stayed focused on your faith in our busy lives.  It has bible verses, inspirational quotes, places for you to schedule time with God, pages to place your prayer requests.  We often think it is important to stay on task with daily responsibilities but our faith sometimes takes the back seat to that.  I love that Deanna incorporated it into one, helping us stay focused on what is most important.  You can order one here.

If you missed the ShopBop Friends and Family sale (I hope you didn’t!  It was so good!), your man can still load up.  The East Dane Friends and Family is still going and it is just the right time to set your man for Fall.  You can shop the entire site here.

Is it weird that I am kind of obsessed with these?  They just look so comfortable.  I may take the plunge.

I love love this classic felt hat and it is currently 30% off with code LAYERUP.  So perfect for Fall and Winter, even in the pink!

I am so excited for scarf weather and this one by Free People is just what I need to bundle up with a warm cup of coffee and a fireplace. Add these leg warmers, these leggings and this cable knit and I won’t be leaving the house.

Here are some other scarves that I am loving and most of them are under $50!

< OTK Boots >

I am been searching for just the right OTK boots for some time. I wanted a great pair that I could wear with dresses and jeans that were not too dressy for every day wear. I wanted a pair that looked great but wasn’t too expensive as I just wasn’t sure how much I would actually wear them in Southern California. I needed a pair that actually hit me over the knee, which is a huge challenged due to my height. And finally, I needed a pair that was not too big around the leg. So often boots that are too loose slouch down because they can’t fit right around my legs. A laundry list of requirements, I know.

It did take some time but I finally came across these OTK boots by Free People and I decided to give them a shot. I loved the price tag (under $250), the color, the fact that they were flat and seemed to look awesome in person.

The review?

LOVE them. They hit over my knee, are tight around my legs without being too tight and are crazy comfortable. I have been dying to wear them but unfortunately a heat wave has kept me from them but this weekend they will be making their debut at the Luke Bryan concert.

Doesn’t it feel good when you spend your time looking for something, have patience and finally find it? If you are looking for a good pair of OTK boots, I have included some other favorites below.

Happy Boot Shopping!
